Call for Papers: TEANGA Special Issue 11 - Irish Sign Language

We are delighted to inform you that the series editors of the Journal of the Irish Association for Applied Linguistics, TEANGA, have agreed to publish a special edition of the journal, with a focus on Irish Sign Language.

We would like to invite you to contribute to this special volume of TEANGA, dedicated to research work related to Irish Sign Language. We invite evidence-based paper contributions within the domain of linguistics, applied linguistics or linguistics in action exploring a range of key issues relating to Irish Sign Language. Examples of possible topics include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Language Description
  • Language Rights
  • Language policy and practice issues
  • Access to civil society
  • Translation and Interpretation (T&I)
  • Applied sign linguistics
  • Sociolinguistics of Irish Sign Language
  • Linguistic theory
  • Computational linguistics

Full papers are invited for potential publication in this Special Issue of TEANGA: The Journal of the Applied Association of Applied Linguistics.

Papers may be submitted in Irish Sign Language or written English.

Project reports and book reviews are also welcome – please contact don't hesitate to contact us to discuss proposed submissions in this regard.

Submissions should be a maximum of 6,000 words, including references and footnotes. Longer papers may be possible under certain circumstances, by prior arrangement with the editors. Video submissions should be no longer than 20 minutes duration. Longer submissions may be possible under certain circumstances, by prior arrangement with the editors.

Book reviews and project reports are usually a maximum of 2,000 words.

Author Guidelines: All authors must follow the author guidelines provided in the submission instructions for authors, which can be accessed via the TEANGA website https://journal.iraal.ie/index.php/TEANGA/about/submissions. Authors should submit their written manuscripts in MSWord via the TEANGA submission system.

If you are submitting an ISL version, we will ask for you to submit a draft version in the first instance. The draft should closely resemble your final product. This will be reviewed. Once you receive feedback from reviewers, you shoot your final video for publication. Videos should be recorded on high definition video recording equipment and edited using video editing software.

To submit, you should upload your draft video to YouTube and share the link with us via the submission form. Make sure that your post is unlisted so that only those with the link can see and comment on your video. (If accepted for publication, we will expect that feedback from reviewers is built into the final submission.) By submitting a manuscript (written or signed), the author(s) must certify that the contribution is original, is not under consideration for publication elsewhere and that no part of the material breaches the copyrights of others. All articles will first be evaluated by the editors of this special volume to ensure suitability with the scope of both the special volume and TEANGA: The Journal of the Irish Association for Applied Linguistics.

After the first screening, suitable papers will be submitted to a blind, peer review process according to the standards of TEANGA: The Journal of the Applied Association of Applied Linguistics.
