Déantar iniúchadh sa staidéar seo ar an nasc idir scileanna agus straitéisí léitheoireachta agus dearcadh agus inspreagadh na léitheoireachta Gaeilge i measc dhaltaí 9-11 bliana d’aois i scoileanna tumoideachais in Éirinn. Bhí trí chéim i gceist leis seo a fhiosrú. Mar chéad chéim rinneadh measúnú ar réimse de chomhpháirteanna na léitheoireachta le gnóthachtáil na bpáistí a mheas chomh maith leis na scileanna agus na straitéisí léitheoireachta a bhíonn in úsáid agus iad ag léamh i nGaeilge. Ansin, bailíodh barúlacha na bpáistí féin ar an léitheoireacht, orthu féin mar léitheoirí agus ar na leabhair Ghaeilge atá acu. Ar deireadh leis na naisc a fhiosrú idir scil agus toil cuireadh na torthaí ar fad a chur i gcomparáid lena chéile agus déantar plé ar na comparáidí chomh maith le moltaí a dhéanamh ar bhealaí leis an léitheoireacht a fhorbairt trí thógáil ar na naisc seo.
This study investigates the links between reading skills and strategy use and motivation and attitudes to reading in Irish among 9-11 year old pupils in immersion schools in Ireland. There were three stages to the investigation. The first involved a range of assessments on reading achievement as well as ascertaining the skills and strategies being utilised by pupils in their reading of Irish. Then children’s own views on reading were gathered, including their opinions of themselves as readers and views on their reading materials in Irish. Finally all results were compared to determine links between skills and motivation. Comparisons are discussed and recommendations are made to build on the links.
